Ok, so we have plenty of Type-Moon fans in here, so I figured that having a thread specifically for discussion of their works would be nice. But well, maybe you have no idea what Type-Moon is, and just wandered into this topic for whatever reason. In that case, allow me to write up a small introduction on them here! Type-Moon is a Japanese developer of visual novels, founded in 2000 by writer Nasu Kinoko and illustrator Takashi Takeuchi. They specialize in stories that mix magical and supernatural elements with modern settings, featuring vampires, ghosts, and like.
It's also notable that all of their (canon) stuff takes place in the same multiverse (which we fans call the Nasuverse), which is known for being highly expansive and detailed (sometimes excessively so). Though visual novels are their forte, their works are so famous in Japan that they've received many adaptations into other media, along with spinoffs and etc. Anyway, their works include: Kara no Kyoukai (originally released as a three-volume light novel. It was later adapted into seven anime movies, which were produced by Ufotable. Tsukihime (the first VN that they released, and pretty much the thing that launched them into success. A remake was recently confirmed to be in development (yaaay). Tsukihime Plus Disc (a fandisk to Tsuki.
Kagetsu Tohya (the sequel to Tsuki. I have read neither this nor Plus Disc, so I can't really say much about them. Melty Blood (a fighting game with Tsuki's characters, developed alongside the doujin group French Bread. Fate/stay night (which is not only their most famous work, but also widely considered one of the best VNs ever. Especially notable is its premise, which is one of my favorite survival games/battle royals ever.
Fate/hollow ataraxia (both a sequel and fandisk to F/sn. A fan translation is currently underway. Fate/zero (a prequel to F/sn released as a series of light novels, made in collaboration with Nitroplus. It later received an (AWESOME) anime adaptation, again produced by Ufotable.
Mahoutsukai no Yoru (their latest work, which features Aoko Aozaki as its protagonist (she had appeared as a minor character in Tsukihime). Art was done by Hirokazu Koyama instead of Takeuchi. As with F/ha, a fan translation is in the works.
There's a lot more less-notable stuff too, like Angel Notes(if it counts), Canaan, Fate/tiger colosseum, Fate/unlimited codes, Fate/Extra (and CCC), Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Ilya, Fate/apocrypha, Fate/strange fake and Carnival Phantasm. If you didn't notice, Fate is their most popular series. Anyway, yeah! If you'd like to get into TM stuff, I'd reccomend starting with either Tsukihime or Fate/stay night.
Note, however, that while both got anime adaptations, those SUCK BALLS and you should treat them as if they didn't exist. Alternatively, you could go watch Fate/zero (it's really great), but keep in mind that it has quite some spoilers for F/sn. Or if you just want to know more about the setting, the Type-Moon Wiki (is a good place to start. LATEST NEWS The Tsukihime remake was announced! (www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYlzBuPpgtE) Yaaay! And Sacchin's route was confirmed!
I'm really glad to finally see that they're making progress on the Tsukihime remake. The universe needs that Satsuki route, after all.
Anywho, of the stuff on the list I've interacted with, it'd be Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night, as one would expect (both in VN form), Kagetsu Tohya, Melty Blood (Which I haven't played in a long while, on account of not having my gamepad), Canaan, Prisma Illya, and Kara no Kyoukai (movies, haven't read the novels yet). I still need to at least go and finish up the first route of F/SN, since I stopped somewhere after Saber vs. Berserker and haven't read it since.

Oh hey, I managed to go the entire post without saying there is no Tsukihime anime!Wait. I'm one of those people who's just so ridiculously excited for the remake. Tsukihime was really good but it has aged pretty badly by now, especially when you consider the quality level of Mahoyo or even F/sn. Also SACCHIN ROUTE.
ISN'T IT GREAT SACCHIN. Well, the stuff that I've checked out includes KnK (all of the movies), Tsukihime (finished all routes except Kohaku's), Melty Blood (specifically, the PS2 version), F/sn (read everything), F/z (anime), Angel Notes, and Carnival Phantasm. I have Plus Disc and Kagetsu Tohya on my PC though. Also I really reccomend finishing F/sn! Saber's route is kind of slow but everything gets better later on, and the routes are progressively better as well. And Saber vs.
Berserker is just so early in the story: Anyway, I'd really like to reread F/sn and Tsukihime, since it's been so long. But I dunno if I should wait for the Realta Nua patch and the remake to do that. Oh dang, it's pretty early in?Albeit, I just realized, there's two occasions wherein Saber fights Berserker. And I'm after the second one.
I really haven't read since I'm a lazy duder and this actually tends to happen to me with VNs. I'm really liking the new character art in the remake, too. Ciel's especially.
I really hope a translation doesn't take too long to come out after it's released. Hopefully shouldn't if most of the routes don't change a ton. Ah, and now you reminded me, I forgot to put down Carnival Phantasm (how could you, me?) and Arcueid and Hisui's route in Tsukihime. I was making a beeline to Kohaku's route, but then my hard drive crashed and I never got to it afterwards.

I really haven't read since I'm a lazy duder and this actually tends to happen to me with VNs. Oh, then yeah the second one is more towards the middle.
Still reccomend finishing it though. I'm really liking the new character art in the remake, too. Ciel's especially. I really hope a translation doesn't take too long to come out after it's released.
Hopefully shouldn't if most of the routes don't change a ton. I'm liking the redesigns as well, with Ciel's also being my favorite.
People don't seem to be liking Arc's new short skirt, but I don't mind it, maybe because Takeuchi's art has improved SO MUCH holy &&&&. As for the translation, I wonder if mirror-moon will do it? Eh, I don't even know if they're still around. It seems that they sort of disappeared after refusing to translate F/ha for dumb reasons. Heh, Kohaku is probably my favorite character in Tsukihime.
Even though I don't really remember anything about her route. which makes me especially excited to read Mahoyo, assuming I haven't passed into senility by the time it's been released. Silly Erue, Mahoyo has already been released (http://vndb.org/v777)! Oh boy let me ramble My first introduction to Type-Moon stuff was watching Fate/Zero a little over a year ago. Really liked it a lot, and that spurred me to play through Fate/stay night around the middle of the year. Pretty amazing, actually, even though I was spoiled on almost all of it. It also has one of my favourite soundtracks of anything ever, but hey.
(This Illusion and all its remixes aaaaaaaa Fate/zero = Fate/stay night Tsukihime. My favourite character in the whole Nasuverse is less easy to work out. Honourable mentions go to Shiki Ryougi, Rin and both Fate/stay night Archers (although I prefer Gilgamesh), but they're not quite on the same tier as my very favourites. Ultimately, third place goes to Waver from Fate/zero for having immensely satisfying character development. I think Kirei is pretty amazing and quite possibly my favourite villain in anything (last two days of Heaven's Feel, anyone?) so he grabs second place. But really, the list is topped by Tomoe Enjou from Kara no Kyoukai. I don't want to spoil anything, but.
Really, everything about his story is just so, so great. But lol Tomoe is literally useless Also, the Tsuki remake will probably be all-ages. Considering Realta Nua and Mahoyo, it's pretty clear that at this point Nasu doesn't need to shoehorn porn into his stuff anymore for it to sell. As for favorite characters, this is kind of a funny thing, since there are some great ones (like Waver or zero!Rider), but none that I'd call my favorite. Maybe staynight!Rider (and that's apparently an unpopular opinion). That said, Kotomine and Kiritsugu are probably up there as well.
Tsukihime was my introduction to the Nasuverse. I learned of it when I was a picture of Hisui on a page and my maid obsession made me need to know who she was, leading me to at least know the existence of it. It wasn't until a while later when I got my own laptop that I decided to read through it. And yeah, even though I've only read two routes, I will admit it had its flaws. Mainly in that what I mainly recall of Hisui's route is that it was really boring until it neared the ending. Though it was a decently long time ago, too.
I really should reread it, as well as the other routes. Proceeding onto Kagetsu Tohya though was quite fun. I still haven't actually finished it, though, due to how weird it is with that. It's still really enjoyable without the ending though, with all of the silly things that happen, like the Culture Festival and any time where Kohaku gets involved. I still need to watch Fate/Zero, too.
I planned on watching it after Fate/Stay Night, but still with that, I'm being a lazy so-and-so. I've seen clips of it, though, and it looks really good. And the fact that it's by ufotable, who were also behind the Kara no Kyoukai movies, just makes it all the better.
Kohaku is probably my favorite character in the Nasuverse, being that she was a big reason why I even read Tsukihime and that she's my main in the Melty Blood games. Second is Satsuki, since why not? She doesn't get enough love. Also, Metly Blood secondary. Other than them, I didn't put a ton of thought into my favorites, ahaha. But lol Tomoe is literally useless It's tragic uselessness okay::C) As for favorite characters, this is kind of a funny thing, since there are some great ones (like Waver or zero!Rider), but none that I'd call my favorite.
Maybe staynight!Rider (and that's apparently an unpopular opinion). That said, Kotomine and Kiritsugu are probably up there as well. Picking favourites is hard, yeah. And I like fsn!Rider's design more than I should, but characterwise. I dunno, she's not terribly exciting to me. Hm yeah, Tomoe is actually a pretty cool guy who does surprisingly a lot considering his Origin. But then again, everyone is awesome in Paradox Spiral.
As for Rider's design - yeah I actually don't like her normal one very much and far prefer her casual clothes (Also, the reason she doesn't look like the Medusa we know is that this is her form before she was cursed; after curse (she should be more familiar, though with the usual Nasuverse liberties taken. But yeah I actually like her character, and she's one of the biggest reasons I want to read hollow ataraxia.
And OH YEAH I forgot about Kohaku too! I really like her as well, though I didn't finish her route. I'm not entirely sure how I should feel about her. To me, it felt like her big complex revenge plot was just a little bit too detailed for me to accept. And the big thing that bugged me about her route was that years of repression and emotionlessness were suddenly undone over the course of less than a fortnight, just because Shiki remembers a promise? And then she gives up her vendetta against the Tohno family just because Shiki says he loves her?
Yeah, it was just too hard for me to suspend disbelief. Favorite characters. Well, slightly unpopular opinion, but Gilgamesh. His cockiness makes for some great interactions with other characters, such as ones who either a.
Don't care a lick (f/z berserker) or b. Try to learn more about him (f/z rider). Special mentions go out to Waver, F/z Rider, Kotomine, Kiritsugu, and F/z Lancer. I haven't actually played enough of Tsukihime to properly consider any of them- I've only played about halfway through Arc's route before putting it down. I should finish it someday. My favorite characters in the franchise are Lancer and Archer.
And I find my affinity for the latter somewhat amusing, seeing as I don't like Shirou too much. And I'm not sure how people here feel about this, but according to the rest of the internet, I'm in an extremely small minority thinking that. Fate/Prototype would have been far superior to Stay Night. Sure, there'd be no Archer as we know him but. It seems like a small sacrifice for the benefit of no Arturia (and god do I hate arturia). Plus it'd still have Lancer and Gilgamesh and mother&&&&ing Kojiro so it wouldve obviously been great. My favorite characters in the franchise are Lancer and Archer.

Realta Nua Patch Wikipedia
BUT ALAS Oh no, I totally agree with you. Male Arthur would have been so much better, and I honestly prefer prototype!lancer's design. Not so much on prototype!archer, but hey, can't win them all. Prototype seemed like a much more interesting story than F/sn ever was. I like Gilgamesh since whenever he's in an anime, he's voiced by Tomokazu Seki. You can never be not awesome when you're voiced by him. This is an indisputable fact.
Of course, I know nothing about him outside of that, since laziness. I've not much other Type-Moon stuff to discuss right now, again, due to laziness, although I should get back to playing Battle Moon Wars at some point. It's basically a crossover SRPG game that plays like Super Robot Wars. It's pretty fun, but I'm stuck on a stage near three-fourths through the game, because I sunk all of my upgrades into Shiki, while it's a stage where you can only use Lancer, Archer, and Rider, and you have to kill a strong boss while everything around him uses area of effect attacks for a skill point. And if you don't get them all, you don't get to play the bonus stages.
It's quite awful. And I'm not sure how people here feel about this, but according to the rest of the internet, I'm in an extremely small minority thinking that. I far prefer most of F/p's characters, but it also seemed to have some really stupid &&&& which I'm glad are gone or changed (the gratuitious biblical references, Sancreid, Gil's NPs, etc.) So I guess ideally for me it'd have been a mix of old and new ideas. I smelled seiba hate and hastened here immediately see I didn't say came but yeah, not sure why they would bother making bunches of moemoe sabers when they could be abusing the guy who has canonical alternate timeline selves (emiya) also I'm really upset that we don't see more Counter Guardians aside from Archer. I think it would be cool to see a CG main character, or at least a story with more focus on the Counter Force as a whole because it's a pretty cool concept unless that's what Tsukihime is, which I don't know because I never read it. I smelled seiba hate and hastened here immediately see I didn't say came.yeah. To the others that we haven't talked much to yet, we pretty much all hate Saber:E I personally don't mind her, but really would've preferred a non-genderswapped version.
But yeah, not sure why they would bother making bunches of moemoe sabers when they could be abusing the guy who has canonical alternate timeline selves (emiya) Well, Archer's a playable Servant in Fate/Extra, if anything. Also I'm really upset that we don't see more Counter Guardians aside from Archer. I think it would be cool to see a CG main character, or at least a story with more focus on the Counter Force as a whole because it's a pretty cool concept unless that's what Tsukihime is, which I don't know because I never read it Hmm, the TM wiki doesn't mention any specific examples, but as the Counter Force acts against any who would wish to reach the Root, certain characters can be seen as acting in its behalf. For example, Ryougi against Araya in KnK, and actually mmmmmmmmmmaybe Arc and Shiki against Roa?
Oh also, it seems that Mahoyo gives some more details on the Blue (aka Fifth Magic/Sorcery/whatever). Man I want it to be translated soon.
Still in the topic of the Sorceries and things one would like to see, I'd really like something with Zelretch as the protagonist. He's one of the most interesting characters in my opinion, and pretty much already is the protgonist of the universe anyway. My issue with Saber is less the genderswap thing, and more that I just find her to be a boring character. (She talks about honour and not being treated like a woman a lot. Also did I mention honour?) It doesn't help that she, or her design, gets ported to every new Fate release ever.
I mean, geez, it's not like most Type-Moon fans wouldn't lap up whatever they throw us with or without the inclusion of their favourite cash cow. Also, seconding the whole 'we should have more Counter Guardians' thing. I mean, an Archer-centric release about the Counter Force would be pretty damn great.
Fate/Stay Night - Realta Nua PC Realta Nua Improved Uncensor Patch v1.0 The Improved Uncensor Patch is an alternate uncensor patch for the unofficial English translation/patch of Fate/Stay Night: Realta Nua for the PC It replaces many of the uncensored ero ie, adult, hentai, or h images included in the patch originally by anonymous with what I consider superior uncensored images created by Belldandy100. For those unsure of which version of the ero scenes they prefer, I have included a Comparisons folder in the torrent containing the old and new versions of the images so you can compare and decide if you like the art style of the new ones better.
